Cultural Awareness Case Studies
Corinium Language Associates has many years of experience in providing language and cultural support to business, and has provided a number of cultural awareness training seminars, both in-company and at our premises, covering a range of cultures.
Indian in Berkshire
Two half-day seminars were provided on two days for employees of an international oil and lubricants company. The team, which itself comprised members of various nationalities, required an understanding of Indian culture and the impact of this on business, to provide some background to their anticipated dealings with counterparts in India.
The seminars, which were each attended by up to 15 delegates, involved a combination of interaction, activities and lecture-style sessions, delivered by a native of India with experience of living and working in both the UK and her native country.
French in Cheshire
During one day, two half-day seminars were provided for 20-30 employees of a large multinational with a factory near Manchester, as a result of a joint venture with a French company. The trainer was a British national with extensive experience of the French culture and working environment.
The seminars covered topics such as social and cultural norms and protocol, the French business environment and doing business with the French, attitudes to power, authority and regulation, and how the French see the British.
Czech in Gloucestershire
A one-day workshop for an employee of a Cheltenham-based engineering company, providing an introduction the culture and language prior to a business trip to the Czech Republic.
Taiwanese in Gloucestershire
A half-day seminar provided on a one-to-one basis to an employee of a flooring materials company. The session covered an introduction to the culture of Taiwan in preparation for a business visit.
German in Swindon
A one-day workshop provided for 10-12 employees of an energy company requiring a background understanding of the German culture due to the company having strong links with Germany. Topics covered included English and German cultural values, communication styles, meeting people and building relationships.
