Recent
Graduates
If
you have good language skills and are
- a recent
graduate or
- are soon
to graduate
we
would like to hear from you.
If
you also have technical skills and/or experience so much the better!
Important
factors
Enthusiasm -
Personality You must come over well at interview to get a
job. Have a look at our page giving tips for interviews. It is important
in most jobs to be able to communicate well and appear confident, enthusiastic
and energetic as well as capable!
Work experience
All work experience is valuable and will help you to get a job.
If you have worked overseas, perhaps in a placement year, that is particularly
valuable.
Computer skills
Almost every job requires a level of computer skills. If you
have an interest in learning more, about computers for example, that
too can be very valuable.
Technical and/or
business skills or experience If you have worked at Uni, or
beforehand, in a technical subject, this can be particularly important.
Combinations of languages and technical skills are relatively scarce
and jobs which combine the two will pay premium rates.
Specialist IT skills
with languages are particularly valuable but so too is experience in
accountancy or bookkeeping, engineering, marketing, supply planning,
etc.
What
type of jobs are there?
The vacancies for
recent graduates vary according to your languages, experience and what
you are looking for in terms of job location, etc. Look at the examples
of jobs we have filled and the current listings of vacancies.
Many of the vacancies
we handle are suitable for recent graduates. The employer has a need
and will put you into a position where you are able to learn and get
your teeth into something very quickly. Most have really good career
prospects, but it is important to check to be clear about prospects
before you start. Some of the vacancies are specifically for graduate
trainee roles.
Are
you language driven?
How important is
it to you that you use the language much of the time? The percentage
of time using a language can vary enormously from job to job. Sometimes
the job is entirely in the foreign language whether spoken over the
telephone or written in emails or letters. Sometimes it is occasional
use and sometimes it is for a translating and support type role.
Our experience
suggests that many so called "Bilingual PA" jobs do not make
much use of language skills but they do demand high level PA skills.
The highest usage of languages is often in sales or customer support
type roles.
Where?
Anywhere (almost)
in the UK. We have regularly have vacancies in the South and Southwest
of England, Manchester and the North West region, the East and West
Midlands and in the London & South East region. We sometimes have
jobs overseas.
Temporary
work
Sometimes, including
for some Graduate roles, employers prefer to start people on a "temp
to perm" basis. This gives both sides a chance to try each other
out. If you are prepared to start in this way, it could get you established
in a good company (sometimes with blue chip employers) with some good
experience. All our temporary employees have a full employment contract
with specified notice, holidays, etc..
Call
Centres
You may have worked
as a student in a call centre. Call Centres vary substantially. Many
offices could be described as call centres and some of these are very
interesting jobs with extremely international and lively teams, good
career potential and excellent employers. Do not be immediately prejudiced
by the label "call centre". It is often worth finding out
the facts first.
How
do I apply?
First you should
register with us. Even if nothing on the current listing appeals to
you, it is worth registering. Many jobs get filled before they even
appear on the website. They are filled from our register.
To register
We shall acknowledge
it and, as soon as something arises where appears suitable, we shall
get in touch with you again.
