Job Hunters' Guide

Statement to Candidates

  • We never send any CV to a potential employer without the agreement of the candidate. We will always discuss the role with you beforehand so that you are aware of the vacancy, the identity of the client and give your permission to be put forward.
  • We maintain a register of job applicants who are looking for jobs that use their languages.
  • No other company has access to this register for any purposes whatsoever.

What type of jobs?

Extremely varied. The vacancies we recruit for range from highly technical and sometimes very senior jobs such as IT Directors and Managing Directors to jobs for recent graduates, part time receptionists or temporary work in a call centre team. The only common theme is that all the jobs involve the use of languages. Take a look at the "Job Examples" page to give you an idea of the type of jobs we have successfully filled.

How good do my languages need to be?

If you are to use your languages over the telephone all day, they must be to a good level. In some cases they need to be native. We test all non-native languages that are key to any job. Occasionally we have jobs for people with intermediate skills.

Job vacancies?

We provide job listings and details of some of the current vacancies, which are updated regularly. If you do not see the right job for you in these listings, please register with us in any case. Many jobs are filled from the register and do not get as far as appearing on the website listings.

Are these linguist jobs?

Rarely. Most of our vacancies are salaried permanent jobs in business, commerce or the professions with good career potential. Some jobs are temporary and some start as temporary for the first few months so are on a "temp to perm" basis. There are relatively few jobs for pure linguist roles such as translators and interpreters. Many of the people doing these roles are self employed - freelance.

Temporary contracts?

Some jobs are, or start as, "temporary". Some of the most interesting jobs we have recruited for have actually started as a "temp to perm". If you can consider this type of employment basis it can improve your chances of getting into certain very popular companies. An important factor, which is not shared with many agencies, is that everyone on our "temporary contractor team" is an employee of Corinium Language Associates and has a contract detailing the terms including items such as notice periods, holidays, and the option of contributing to a pension etc.

Where?

Most, but not all, of our jobs are in the UK. In fact jobs on our register may be almost anywhere. When you register it is important to let us know where you would be prepared to work, and perhaps more importantly where you are NOT prepared to work.

How do I register?

  • e-mail us direct with your CV as a "Word" attachment.
  • if you do not have access to e-mail then send it by post to Recruitment, Corinium Language Associates, The Language Centre, Wadham Close, Southrop, Nr Lechlade, Gloucestershire, GL7 3NR..

E-mail registration is preferred. We will acknowledge the receipt of your CV. We may not have the right job for you immediately but as soon as a possible vacancy arises we shall get in touch with you again to see if you are interested.
